Holocaust Memorial Day (29/01/2018)

Date: 29/01/2018 00:00 - 23:59
Booking Required: No
Venue: Islington Assembly Hall

Holocaust Memorial Day takes place on 27 January each year, the same day that Auschwitz-Birkenau (the largest Nazi death camp) was liberated. On this day we remember not only those who were killed during the Holocaust but also those who have been affected by genocide around the world since then. It is an opportunity for the borough as a community to not only remember atrocities in recent history, but also to reaffirm its commitment to seek tolerance, respect and fair treatment of all members of society.

Islington’s commemoration will include testimony from Holocaust survivor, Ernest Simon, and remarks from Emily Thornberry MP and Leader of the Council, Cllr Richard Watts. Members of the audience will be given the opportunity to ask their own questions and participate in a wider discussion around genocide and prejudice in society.
